Wendigo can be advanced.

While Wendigo has an odd number of advancement tokens on it, it gains barrier and loses code gate.

SubroutineChoose a program. The Runner cannot use the chosen program for the remainder of the run.

Wendigo is one of Weyland's Morph ice. It starts out as a Code Gate and can be changed to and from a Barrier by advancing it. Wendigo has two abilities and one subroutine.

Constant Ability
The Corporation can advance Wendigo
Constant Ability
Wendigo gains Barrier and loses Code Gate as long as it has an odd number of advancement tokens on it
Subroutine (Required Conditional Ability)
Subroutine Effect
The Corporation chooses one of the Runner's installed programs. The Runner cannot "Use" that program until the end of the run.

Related RulingsEdit

  • The gaining and losing of subtypes for Wendigo should be tracked as a running total. For example, if Kit encounters a Wendigo with an odd number of tokens on it, it is still a Code Gate because it has lost one instance of Code Gate and gained another instance of Code Gate, net resulting in one instance of Code Gate.[1]:Ruling
  • Wendigo's subroutine does not stop viruses like Medium from gaining virus counters, but it does keep the Runner from using those virus counters for other abilities.[2]:Ruling

SourcesEdit

  1. Gaining and Losing Subtypes Ruling
I have a Wendigo installed and advanced once. Runner is Kit and makes a run, and Wendigo is the first piece of ice she encountered this turn. Is Wendigo Code Gate or not? And what if instead of Kit it was any other runner using Tinkering instead? and what about Paintbrush?
When a card gains and loses a trait multiple times, you should keep a running total to see if the card has that trait. So if you advance Wendigo so that it loses code gate, but then it gains a second code gate subtype with Tinkering, Kit, or Paintbrush, then it is considered a code gate since it has two instances of code gate and has only lost it once.
  2. Wendigo v. Viruses Ruling
Would Wendigo prevent Datasucker or Medium from gaining virus counters? Would it stop Meidum's multi-access?
Doesn't prevent Datasuckers etc. from getting counters, but they can't be used.
